We loved this self-guided walking wine tour, which is an 8km loop track hitting 4 of the local vineyards/wineries.

Its suggested the tour takes 3.5-4.5 hours. But if honestly suggest giving it more time as we felt a little rushed by that time schedule- especially if you’re having lunch! We didn’t manage to make it to Aurum.

It’ll only set you back $25 per person, and most places you get to try 5 or more vines.

We started off at Misha’s Vineyard- beautiful space with friendly staff (we even had one of our wines poured by Misha herself!!). Here you could pick 5 wines from a very reasonable tasting list. Delicious Pinot Noirs (obviously) but the total star of the tasting was the Limelight Riesling, never had a wine that tastes like a margarita when you hold it on your tongue before!!

Next we hit the Wooing Tree (we did not take the sugges route!!) which was an understated but classy vineyard. Incredibly yummy wines and a perfect lunch spot. The only place in NZ where you can get a white Pinot Noir.

Lastly we spent some time at Scott Base, again casual but great at what they do. Beautiful hill top tasting, great wines and a great spicy sausage to snack on!
